I woke up to sad news this morning, the passing of Voiceover legend Don LaFontaine. You may not have recognized him if you had passed him on the street, but had he opened his mouth, you would have been left wondering “where have I heard that voice before?”. The answer…just about everywhere.
God must have had some voice work which required only the best, so he called Don home to handle the task. We will surely miss Don and wish the best to his wife and immediate family as well as to the voiceover family that loved and learned so much from Don over the years. That’s a wrap, Don. Job well done.
Recently I was listening to one of several podcasts related to voice overs (VOX Talk, Voice Overs On Demand and Voice Over Experts) and Stephanie Ciccarelli made mention of a YouTube video that was getting rave reviews. Of course, I just had to go check it out (and add to the now over half a million views it has enjoyed). I just couldn’t stop laughing as it poked a little fun at the voice over industry.
There are some among us in the voice over community that are blessed with a natural speaking voice that is perfect for VO work. Most of us, however, have to “turn on” our working voices when it is time to perform. There is nothing wrong with that, I mean, Kiefer Sutherland doesn’t run around shooting up Hollywood 24/7 either. Like Kiefer, when it is time to perform, we call on our experience and our training to provide the best possible performance for our clients.
After watching the Voice Talkers clip on YouTube, I decided to see if anyone had taken ownership of www.VoiceTalkers.com. To my surprise, it was available…..so I took ownership and directed it to my “The Helms Agency” website. Lets face it, there is more to marketing yourself as a voice actor or voice over talent than word of mouth (pun intended). If popular sketch on YouTube can send potential clients my way, why not. Here is the clip. Enjoy…
Many thanks to Rodney Wallin of the Belmont Design Agency for helping me get the site “turned up a notch.” Rodney can do wonders for you too. The Belmont Design Agency can do so much more than just websites. Get started by clicking on the link above and you’ll be glad you did.
The new site will be so much better than the previous version of the site which was so very under developed. As I learn to manage the new site and enable some of the many plugins available, it will only continue to get better.
In the mean time, please pardon the dust of a complete overhaul and remodel of the site and feel free to contact me for your voicing needs.
